THIS WEBSITE IS IN DANGER OF BEING LOST FOREVER!

Why? How could all this information be wiped out overnight?

Well this site is privately owned, I am the one who has created it, maintains it and pays to keep in online. I am also 62 years old this year (2022) and I won't live forever.

If I die, or if I am incapacitated enough that I cannot keep this website alive, it will vanish almost overnight.

The information on this site has taken me decades to research and make available for everyone. There are thousands of original photographs from all over Western Australia and hunderds of videos that we have made.

I have been looking for a way to preserve this website once I am gone but so far, I have not found a way to do it. So how can you help?

Well, if you know someone who may be able to help or a company or someone in government who understands the need to keep this information online for everyone to keep on accessing, then I need to know about them and I need their contact details so that this website can be kept alive when I no longer am.

The tragedy of losing online information plays out all the time. Don Copley once created a wonderful website all about the history of Western Australian railways but something must have happened to Don as his site suddenly vanished and everything he had worked for years to create was gone!

I know that the Wayback Machine archives old websites and makes them available (sort of) once the original site has gone but the collected sites are very imperfect and quite difficult for people to access.

There has to be some way of preserving online content that is important and has taken years to create.

This site is currently preserved on Trove at : https://webarchive.nla.gov.au/awa/20220623012327/https://www.wanowandthen.com/ but Trove itself is in danger of being lost due to government mis-management and the copy kept there is never up-to-date.

I do suggest, however, that you bookmark it as it is NOT searchable via the normal channels and is not easily accessible. It is also slow and incomplete.

Wayback Machine also holds copies of this website but again it is not searchable or discoverable on search engines and is also incomplete. https://web.archive.org/web/20230000000000*/https://www.wanowandthen.com/video-index.html

PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN. THIS GROWS MORE URGENT EVERY DAY.
