Telephones

Since deregulation of the telephone network there is greater choice when it comes to selecting a service provider but outside the major centres you are still pretty much limited to one carrier.

Charges these days depend a great deal on where you are, what carrier you are with and what deal you have signed up for.

Since the advent of mobile phones, people tend to rely less on fixed phone lines but if you are heading off to remote areas please remember that mobile phone signals are usually only available in population centres. If you want to have reliable communications in the outback then you need to get a satellite phone.
