Marshall Waller Clifton was born at Alverstoke, Hampshire, England on 1st November, 1787 to Reverend Francis Clifton and Rebekah Katharine (nee Bingham).

Waller (now aged 53) arrived in W.A. in 1840 with his wife and 11 of their children to oversee the settlement.

Chronology
1787 - Born November 1st. 1805 - Joined the Admiralty as an extra clerk. 1811 - Promoted to junior clerk. 1811 - Married Elinor Bell. 1816 - Promoted to 2nd class clerk. 1822 - Appointed secretary to the Victualling Board for the Royal Navy. 1832 - Retired on a pension and moved to France. 1841 - Appointed a Magistrate and Justice of the Peace. 1840 - Arrived in W.A. and sailed to Australind aboard the Parkfield. 1843 - Waller is dismissed from the Western Australian Company when it was wound up. 1847 - Moved from his original allotment at Alverstoke to moved to Upton House. 1844 - Appointed to the Leschenault Road Board. 1851 - Became a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council. 1858 - Resigned from the Legislative Council. 1861 - Died April 10th.
