DESCRIPTION

Lake Leschenaultia is located a few kilometres from the small town of Chidlow and is managed by the Shire of Mundaring.

The dam was constructed in 1897 to collect water for steam engines using the old Midland to Chidlow's Well line. The dam's capacity is 520 million litres and it reaches a depth of 9 metres.

Those with tents and camper trailers can stay at the campsite that provides power, toilets, hot showers and a washing machine. Bookings are taken via the shire office on 08 9295 0202.

Campsites must be booked prior to arrival and sorry, pets are not allowed.

There is refundable deposit for keys as the gates and toilet blocks are locked later in the day. Locking times vary according to the time of year.

Although there is a fee to camp overnight, it is currently free to enter the park for day use.

Unruly behaviour and excessive noise are not permitted.

The park is very picturesque and is a great spot for a picnic or a walk. There is a 3 kilometres walk trail around the lake and picnic tables and shelters are scattered around so finding a nice place to sit and enjoy the view is easy.

Caution should be taken when swimming as the water is untreated. It is wise to keep your head above water and there is the possibility of leeches inhabiting the lake. Also be aware that parts of the lake are very deep.

A cafe operates on weekends and public holidays.
