Hyde Park is located on the corner of William and Vincent Streets in the suburb of Highgate, just north of Perth city.

The park is a haven of calm and tranquillity near the city and it is the perfect place for a picnic, BBQ lunch, a bike ride or a nice peaceful stroll around the two lakes.

Facilities in the park include public toilets, a playground, a water playground, a pavilion, drinking fountains, a stage area, fitness equipment, tables, benches and BBQs.

'Hyde Park' is a somewhat more romantic name than the original 'Third Swamp Reserve' that was originally given to the area when it was really little more than a swamp. The Aboriginal people gave the name 'Boodjamooling' to the area. The current name was given to the park in 1899 after first being declared a reserve two years earlier.

The Hyde Park Festival that ran annually from 1968-85 was re-born as the Hyde Park Fair in 1989. It is a popular free community event run by the North Perth Rotary Club.

The park was once part of extensive wetlands that over time, have been gradually filled in and built on.

The plane trees are over 100 years old and the park is one of the few places, in a state dominated by ever-green trees, where you can feel the seasons start to change in autumn. Other trees in the park include Moreton Bay Figs, Port Jackson Figs, Pines, Jacarandas, Swamp Cypress, Red Cedar, Bunya Pine as well as a few Eucalyptus and Melaleuca that have survived the 'make-over' of the area.

Many bird species are attracted to the park and these include ducks, ibis, cormorants, egrets, coots, moor hens, wattle birds, magpies, wagtails and even kookaburras.
