Park size: 448,264 ha
150km west of Wyndham
The largest and most inaccessible National Park in the Kimberley region. It is necessary to register your intention to enter the park at Kununurra (NPaW) Ph. 08 9168 4200, before you go. There are significant numbers of plant and animal species represented in the park.
Access is very difficult via Carson River Station tracks off Kalumburu Road. You must call in at the Kalumburu Aboriginal Community to obtain and pay for a permit before entering Carson River Station.
Below Solea Falls the river is home to saltwater crocodiles. DO NOT SWIM in this area or camp near the river bank. The river runs from the Caroline Ranges to Napier Broome Bay near Kalumburu.
The river was named in 1886 by explorer Charles Burrowes after a Director of a Victorian Squatting Company, T.A. Drysdale.
WARNING: This is a remote wilderness area. Experienced outback travellers only with well equipped 4x4s. There are NO facilities in the park.
